FROM MOROCCO TO YOUR TABLE: OUM KALSUM (GRANADA)

Good night gastrotravelers!

Last week we took a break because of the long weekend but we are already back. As people who usually read us already know we like the places which have something different. That´s why we want to show you today a Moroccan food bar we love: the Oum Kalsum located at Jardines street.

The place is small but cozy and you get the feeling of entering a place with personality. That’s why despite being in a side street it is almost always full.

At Oum Kalsum you can order as much tapas (free with the drinks) as rations. One of our favorites is the vegetal cous cous, a traditional dish with a sweet taste.

Another tapa we love is the yunani potato, a boiled potato with a special touch.

If you like spicy beef we are sure you will love the kefta tajine. Besides the taste it has a really nice presentation.

Different and varied flavors that have conquered our palates.

A FALL'S WALK: FUENTE DE LA BICHA - CENES (GRANADA)

Good night gastrotravelers!!
Today we want to dedicate our post to people who like excursions. The route we propose you is full of colors now in fall. It’s perfect for a Saturday or Sunday morning and it’s easy to do.

We start the route overlooking the river at the “Paseo del Salón”. The path has no difficulty because you only have to follow the river until you pass “La Fuente de la bicha” over a bridge.  This fountain has cold and fresh water you can drink.

The total distance of the route (round trip) is 10 km and we spend 2 hours on it, including stops to take pictures.

Beside, on the route we found this nice donkey and some horses. An escapade to nature very close to Granada’s downtown.

10 YEARS OF SUSHI AND A WAITER WITH KIMONO: NISHIBI (SEVILLE)

Good night gastrotravelers!

First off all, we are very proud to present the English version (still in construction) of Gastro, Travels & co in order to reach more friends.

Taking advantage of the visit of Ana´s mother to Seville and the desire she had to taste Japanese food we went to Nishibi (c/Harinas), close to the area of the Cathedral. The kitchen of the restaurant is managed by  Kosei Takakura, who has spent 10 years studing how to cook the best sushi.

We reserved by email and, though they confirmed our reservation, the waiter didn’t know about it. Anyway, it was Friday noon and there were plenty of space available.

Even though there were two kinds of menus, we didn´t take any of them because they didn´t include sushi, makis nor nigiris. As a first course we chose a vegetable tempura which included, between others, asparagus and carrots.

Our second election (it couldn’t be other way at a Japanese) was a sushi and mixed sashimi tray. The waiter asked us if we had any preference with the fish and when we answered that we hadn’t, he said us they were going to serve us the fresher they had: mackerel, salmon and tuna.
The fish is served marinated and this confers it a delicious taste. Besides, the soya sauce they serve is homemade.

To finish, we ordered nine pieces of mixed sashimi, the best choice to enjoy all the kinds of fish. The three of us agreed the mackerel was the best tasting.

If you are three persons you maybe will stay hungry with these dishes, but we had had breakfast late.
Regarding the price, we have been in other restaurants which are more affordable, but the truth is we have not had such a rich fish like in Nishibi.
